IHOP Introduces Their Griddle Melts

I love a sandwich that you can barely fit in your mouth because there's so much stuff on it, like that pastrami sandwich I had at Katz - that was marvelous! Unfortunately in Manila, most sandwiches here are comprised of a few think slices of meat in between very sweet bread. I see why most people here don't consider sandwiches to be an actual meal - the measly portions can barely keep you satiated 'til your next meal.

Which is why I just looove IHOP! Known for their huge servings, fluffy pancakes, and generous helpings of flavored syrup, they have won me over once again with their newest comfort food innovation - their Griddle Melts! A hop, jump, and a skip away from High Street at the W Global Center, I found myself standing under the bright blue and white of IHOP's neon sign, excited to meet up with the rest of the KTG (Kain Tulog Gang aka my foodie fambam) to try their newest creations.

Continuing our commitment to bring our guests the best comfort food that IHOP - or anyone - had to offer, these Griddle Melts are a treat that they can enjoy any time of the day. While other restaurants may serve you sandwiches that are pre-made in advance [sic], every single Griddle Melt is made to order. Bursting with flavor and made with the finest ingredients, the Griddle Melts, like all our classic IHOP offerings, will definitely put a smile on your face. - Archie Rodriguez, President & CEO of Global Restaurant Concepts

When at IHOP, ordering the IHOP Splashers (P175) are a must! You can choose between their thirst-quenching Splashberry - a blend of red, juicy strawberries, lemon-lime soda, and premium orange juice, or the Tropical Island Twist - a blend of lemonade, lemon-lime soda, and tropical mango syrup.

The Splashberry was on everyone's drink list that night and was an instant hit at the table, with people trying to fish out the fresh strawberries. The best part about these refreshing drinks? The free refills!

It took a while for the Griddle Melts to come out of the kitchen, but we weren't disappointed. They were made upon ordering after all, and it takes a while to come up with the perfect sandwich.

The Western Melt has generous serving of smoked ham, sautéed peppers, and onions in a classic fluffy omelette, topped with sliced ham and gooey American cheese, served on grilled artisan sourdough bread (read: not slices of sickly sweet Gardenia). Getting the thick layers of toasted bread and the ham and bell pepper omelette in my mouth was a challenge - I could hardly finish a quarter of the sandwich.

The All American Ham & Egg Melt is pretty straightforward, with sliced ham and three kinds of melted cheeses over a fluffy egg omelette served on grilled artisan sourdough bread. The Provolone, Pepper Jack, and Cheddar ooze out, trying to escape their crusty confines to no avail. Weirdly enough, this was perfect with a big mug of IHOP's Hot Chocolate (P145).

My favorite was the Spinach, Roasted Pepper & Cheese Melt - sautéed fresh spinach in a fluffy egg omelette topped with roasted red peppers and onions, melted Provolone, Parmesan and Pepper Jack cheeses on - surprise - grilled artisan sourdough bread. The different vegetables gave this particular Griddle Melt a different texture and a sweeter taste.

Order a Half Serving (P325) or a Full Sandwich (P385) of the Griddle Melts. I can probably get through a half serving by myself, each serving is so big, a full sandwich would be enough for one American or two to three Asians. Haha! All Griddle Melts are served with your choice of hash browns or seasoned fries, too, so that's a lot of food to get through!
