Quartz Hunting at World of Crystals, Binondo

When I was working for JP Morgan, a clairvoyant-healer friend of mine gave me a small crystal shard as a gift. "Keep it in your wallet so it will never be empty," he said. I really didn't believe in it at first - I mean, it was just a piece of semi-precious stone as far as I was concerned - but true enough, I always had money in my pockets. He forewarned me that once the crystal was done helping me, it would either break or just disappear, and again, after a year of keeping it in my wallet, it just disappeared one day. Whether it fell out of my wallet or got misplaced, I don't really know, but that gift opened my mind to the wonders of keeping and nurturing these shards of powerful energy.

Over the next couple of years I came across many other gifted and awake friends who either help educate people about crystals, clean crystals, scry with them, or use large crystals to help with meditation, and energy flow at work or at home. I took it all in, but have never yet thought of owning another quartz crystal until Chinese New Year in Binondo. After taking a shortcut and getting slightly lost around Ongpin, Jericho and I came across World of Crystals, and something in me just said I had to go in. I was like an Indigo kid in a crystal candy store!

"From ancient times to the present day, quartz crystals have been a source of Light to mankind. Highly valued by spiritual leaders and healers as well as scientists, the unique attributes of quartz have played a key role in mankind's evolutionary development." - Baer, R., "Windows of Light"

Located on Benavidez street next to Country Chicken and opposite the popular hole-in-the-wall Wai Ying (a place I have yet to visit), you really cannot miss the crystal shop, with it's rainbow-colored signage. I didn't think many people would be interested in crystals, but the place was pretty full when we entered.

Almost every kind of crystal imaginable at the store was there - big rainbow seed crystals, aurora quartz crystals, lots of jade amulets and pendants, golden goddess stones, crystal clusters, and other kinds of semi-precious stone bracelets and strung-up beads. I could stay there all day, just staring at all the pretty trinkets. There was one of an elephant I wanted to take home, but it looked pretty heavy, it must've been quite expensive.

I was initially curious about lucky charm bracelets for the Year of the Horse, and these beads were what weas lucky for the years of the Ox and the Rat. I was thinking whether or not to get one for myself - as my black charm looked pretty badass - but had second thoughts as they change practically every year. The all-around lucky gemstone this year to attract wealth and prosperity is citrine, if you were curious.

The quartz fairy wand clusters caught my eye and I asked Atong, the owner, whether they sold the 'unclustered' polished quartz, known in the Western hemisphere as Atlantean Record Keepers. He had a few nice polished ones, and when I asked about how much it would cost to get them set, Atong apparently also had a few others already in pendant form. There were long ones, short one, fat ones, and thin ones - you basically pick the one you most resonate with. Each Atlandean Record Keeper with a pendant set is P400 - a pretty good deal for the size and clarity of the quartz.

They look ordinary yet are extraordinary, both colorful and clear, quartz crystals are the most common and abundant in the world, comprising the largest and most diverse family in the mineral kingdom. In the metaphysical world, clear quartz crystals are the supreme gift of Mother Earth, with even the smallest being imbued with the properties of a master healer teacher. Ancients believed these stones to be alive, taking a breath once every hundred years or so, and many cultures thought them to be incarnations of the Divine.

Today's healers agree, believing crystals are living beings, incredibly old and wise, and willing to communicate when an individual is open and ready to receive. Wearing, carrying or meditating with a Clear Quartz crystal opens the mind and heart to higher guidance, allowing the realm of Spirit to be transmitted and translated into the world of physical form.

Resonating at the level of an individual's needs, clear quartz also amplifies whatever energy or intent is programmed into it, and continues to broadcast that energy throughout the world and into the etheric realms. This may accelerate the fulfillment of one's prayers, intensify healing or spiritual growth, or simply allow the crystal to hold a pattern of energy long enough and strongly enough for the manifestation of a goal to occur.

The same properties of energy amplification, programmability and memory also make clear quartz the most versatile and multidimensional stone in the mineral kingdom for healing, meditation, expansion of consciousness, communication with guides, past-life recall, attracting love or prosperity, or virtually any purpose. However, with this power comes responsibility. To benefit from the rock crystal's blessings, one must feel in harmony with it and deserve its gifts. Intent other than for good inevitably brings harm back on oneself.

Atong performed a short cleansing ceremony before giving me my crystal. When receiving anything with energy, be it a crystal, money, or something of value,  it is best to pick it up with your non-dominant hand (usually the left) so you don't pick up any residue or bad juju of the previous owner. Jericho was intrigued, and after showing him how to use it, bought his own Atlantean Record Keeper, too. We both wear ours around our neck for protection and guidance, among other things.

Throughout history, the clear quartz has been valued by nearly every civilization as far back as Atlantis and Lemuria, where the sun's power was believed to be harnessed through a crystal as a source of solar energy refraction. They, along with Native American Indians, African tribes, ancient Egyptians, Aztecs, Romans, Scots and countless other cultures used clear quartz in diagnostic healing, meditations and spiritual development, as religious objects and in funerary rites, and to dispel evil and magical enchantments.

When mucking around Binondo, seek out World of Crystals and get yourself your own clear quartz pendant to take care of, or buy a fairy wand cluster for around P3,000 to help protect and energize your workplace or home. Just don't put it near your bed. You do not have to be psychic in order to connect to the energy of a clear quartz crystal, you just need to be curious and open-minded. I am definitely going back to buy a few fairy wand clusters, and maybe a yellow calcite, sugalite, and maybe a citrine bracelet for good luck!
