Unboxed: Nude Audio Studio 5 Bluetooth & Lightning Dock Speaker
I thought somebody had sent me a rice cooker when the courier arrived with a big square box in his hands. Too light to possibly be a rice cooker, I was surprised to discover this was the new Nude Audio Studio 5!
After getting over the initial shock of having a what I expected to be a portable speaker, this has turned out to be one of the most gorgeous and best-sounding speakers I have ever tried. I'd give this three thumbs up, as the sound from the Studio 5 nicely fills up my studio apartment - it sounds like I have a home theater system installed when I use this to watch movies or play music.
Breaking the mold of traditional speaker design, the iconic looking, asymmetric speaker features both Bluetooth and an Apple Lightning connector, making it compatible with all smartphones and tablets. The home speaker houses a powerful 2.1 system. This is surround sound quality, with the deep bass filling up my room, delivering rich, crisp, high fidelity sound.
Most compatible with Apple products with a lightning dock, such as the newer iPhone and iPad models, the speakers can be used with any gadget with bluetooth. Unlike its other Nude Audio brothers, the Studio 5 needs to be connected to a power source in order to work. Press the power button once for the light to turn red-blue and connect your speaker to your laptop or TV to watch a movie, or press the button again for the light to turn blue and connect your phone or tablet via bluetooth.
Nude Audio's co-founder, Tom Old, shared, “Studio 5 is very different to other home speakers in the market. We’ve really spent time considering how and where the speaker is going to be used. People don’t just want a speaker to sound good, they’re asking for a speaker that compliments the aesthetics of their home interior too. Gone are the days of design-conscious consumers accepting a black plastic box into their home.”
The Studio 5 has been designed to compliment a chic, contemporary home interior, small enough to be placed on your side table or near your TV without taking up too much space. Real metal elements accompany fabric and soft touch paint on the asymmetric housing creating a refined, yet bold form. Classy.
The speaker provides a variety of connection options. For the latest iPhone and iPod variants, you can play and charge with an Apple Lightning connector. I think this is a sign for me to upgrade my old iPhone 4. Along with aux-in, the speaker also features a CSR Bluetooth chipset, which provides a quick and reliable Bluetooth connection. Impressively, dual-pairing over Bluetooth is possible enabling two devices to be connected at the same time – music can then be switched between devices by simply pressing pause and play!
