Dessert Series: Dessert Jars
I've been in search of the perfect Christmas gift to give away to my lovely clients, and I think I've found it! Carol Chua, the deliciously creative mind behind Dessert Jars, was nice enough to have me sample all of her flavors and take a few jars home! The flavors she has for now are Mocha Mousse, Green Tea Chocolate Mousse, Orange Chocolate Mousse, Lady Finger Trifle, and a Peanut Butter and Oreo Cheesecake.
The jars come in two sizes, and although both sizes may look a tad small, don't let that fool you! Each little jar is packed with sweetness, each with it's own little twist. The pretty packaging is great for corporate giveaways - just let them know that it would be best to enjoy them right away!
The Mocha Mousse (P70) is rich, with a bit of a coffee aftertaste. Although this wouldn't be my first choice (I prefer mine in an espresso cup with a thick layer of crema on top), I could appreciate the rich, chocolate and coffee flavors that come through and would giddily spoon the thick, velvety mousse into my mouth.
Jericho and his sister Justice loved the Peanut Butter Oreo Cheesecake (P180). I found this a bit too cloying for my taste, but this is probably because I was really greedy and got a hulking big scoop of the stuff on the first go! Haha! Lesson learned: When eating any Dessert Jar, take your time and just enjoy the flavors. Jericho isn't a chocoholic like myself, so this alternative was perfect for him and his sister, with the rich layers of thick, puffy cream and peanut butter on a layer of crushed Oreos.
The Orange Chocolate Mousse (P95) was my favorite, and my only wish was that it came in a bigger jar! Opening it was like opening a little treasure, revealing a rich milk chocolate mousse with candied orange rinds inside. The mousse itself had a citrus-y aftertaste that I quite enjoyed, and my only disappointment was that my happy high of consuming this delectable dessert ended too soon.
If you're on a diet, or trying to watch what you eat, I think these little babies are just perfect. They may look small, but they're also really thick and the flavors just intense enough for you to enjoy a few spoonfuls before setting it down and putting it aside as dessert for your next meal. I didn't feel at all guilty!
The Lady Finger Trifle (P180) is creamy, with the light biscuits giving this Dessert Jar another some much needed texture.
The Green Tea White Chocolate Creme (P95) has a surprise inside - a little splodge of blueberry compote, which you wouldn't think would work with green tea mousse, but it does!
When mucking around Manila during the Christmas holiday, save yourself the trouble of figuring out what to give to your friends, family and clients, or shelling out a lot for something they may not even like, and keep it simple with delicious Dessert Jars. I have still to meet anyone who says no to dessert, especially when they look as cute as this!
